The final three 3rd party are all big, popular, western characters. He saw a resurgence thanks to his Mii Costume and an interview with Sakurai that confirmed he was considered for Brawl, despite being very niche. Geno is another Square character that has always been popular but trailed off in Smash For. Perhaps those two being lower is down to people’s perceptions on the companies that own them (many like to think Sakurai wouldn’t work with Konami and that Disney might interfere with Sora). Both Shovel Knight and Shantae, two fairly small players in the industry, all things considered, are ranking above the likes of Bomberman and Sora, two major 3rd party icons. The third party choices are very interesting though. These three are all very recent and are talked about a lot in the community. This includes many currently relevant characters like Rex & Pyra/Mythra, Decidueye and Spring Man. Rool being top of the pack once more with other fan favourites like Waluigi, Bandana Dee, Ridley, Isaac and Dixie Kong making it in were pretty expected. So what results can we gather from this? Some of these results come as absolutely no surprise.
